‘The sooner the better’ for Christmas shopping amid global supply chain chaos

Edith Cowan University’s Associate Professor Flavio Macau says "the sooner the better" for Christmas shopping this year, as a global supply chain meltdown creates chaos for consumers and manufacturers alike. Manufacturing troubles and international transport woes are also impacting parcel delivery timing, along with COVID-19 infection control measures forcing staff into isolation. With Christmas just over nine weeks away, Dr Macau says ordering Christmas gifts “now is about too late, because we’re only two months away. “Delivery times are not guaranteed for items coming from overseas. Christmas is expected to be the “peak time” for the supply chain crunch, with Dr Macau noting “you never know which product will be missing next week - it’s a new thing happening every week. “You never know which part of the supply chain will be affected, but you can know something will be missing at some point in time.”
