The Northern Territory government has announced it will end its COVID-19 public health emergency next week. “At 11:59pm next Wednesday, the 15th of June, the public health emergency in the Northern Territory will end,” NT Chief Minister Natasha Fyles said. The quarantine facility in Howard Springs will close as a result, and mandatory COVID vaccination will be scrapped. The public health order for COVID vaccinations was previously met with vocal community opposition and challenges in the supreme court. “We’re quite pleased that finally, the NT government has seen common sense to end these mandates,” United NT Businesses President Mario Tsirbas said. About 400 public servants lost their jobs after refusing to get vaccinated, but the Chief Minister said there was no guarantee they’ll be re-employed.
