Mental health advocacy groups are calling on leaders to provide “significant investment” into cognitive wellbeing as numerous jurisdictions emerge from marathon COVID-19 lockdowns. A new poll by YouGov found that nearly nine in 10 Australians believe COVID-19 has had a negative impact on their mental health. “It’s been very turbulent times, and I think it’s the key issue as we come out of lockdown; it’s the key issue that governments need to focus on and address,” Australians for Mental Health’s Chris Raine told Sky News Australia. “It’s a massive, systematic problem that we have and something we need significant investment to change. “The fact is this problem exists in the community, and moreover, people want to do something about it; people are putting up their hands for help, but we have waitlists, and people are being turned away from psychologists and counsellors. “We need a massive investment in our system to reform so that people can get that help.”
