The Monkees singer Mike Nesmith dies at 78

Mike Nesmith, a singer and guitarist with the hit 1960s group The Monkees has died at the age of 78. His bandmate Micky Dolenz, confirmed the news, saying he had lost a dear friend and partner in music. According to his manager, Mr Nesmith died of heart failure at his California home in Carmel Valley. Before The Monkees, he had success as the songwriter behind Linda Ronstadt's debut hit ‘A Different Drum’, among other chart toppers. The Monkees starred and sang in their own television series from 1965, introduced by its catchy opening theme, ‘Hey, Hey, We're The Monkees’. Mr Nesmith went on to have a solo career, while still touring with the band and has been considered one of the pioneers of country rock in America.
