Australia won’t shut borders to prevent foot and mouth disease

Agriculture Minister Murray Watt has resisted calls to close borders to Indonesia in a bid to stop foot and mouth disease from entering the country. NSW Minister for Agriculture Dugald Saunders says border closures from one country could be difficult to implement, however, the government should be open to the possibility as the situation unfolds. “I think the federal government needs to keep everything on the agenda, and as things start to change, be ready to adapt and do what needs to be done at that point in time,” he told Sky News Australia.
